While spending nearly every Sunday night in her teens dancing @ the Legendary 1st. Ave. now known as Blend*e started her love affair with house music. The first record she bought was at age 15 while visiting Chicago it was Rome Anthony's "THE WONDERER" that's when the record collection started. When Blend*e was 17 she moved downtown Minneapolis and worked at a restaurant next door to the then Let It Be record shop. There was one local house DJ that worked at both places DJ Kris B who became somewhat of a mentor to Blend*e making sure she always had a full crate of records each week to choose from and needless to say that's where my style and ear developed.
That was not the end of the story, after moving to San Diego in her early 20's the house scene continued to surround her and the love of collecting house and dancing to it continued. Even though she had decks of her own her fear of playing out for a crowd led the way until her late 20's. After several moves that included a short stint and influence by the city of San Francisco Blend*e finally ended up in Austin, TX. That's when she says her fear started to melt away.
"Someone told me once; to not share your art is like a perversion to the soul, it might sound cheesy but it hit me like a hammer over the head one day and that was it." Giving much owed to Plush turntable club on 7th & Red River for giving her a space to play out, Blend*e now resides every Thursday night @ Lanai Lounge where her love of Soulful House continues...
