The man who is continually known to divide opinion dropped the rework in his BBC Essential Mix last weekend. As curator of the original track, the frequent purveyor of industrial techno Blawan tweeted this on the morning after the mix went out, in what you could speculate is his response to the track:

‘Did you forget how to produce or something..?’ It read on one of my Twitter mentions. I looked on the guy’s profile and it said he was from Melbourne. I’ve been supporting the Melbourne sound at the moment and even trying to produce it.

Globally, it’s a new and fresh sound that I see as a little brother of the Dutch sound and a nice new challenge to me! In Melbourne however, this sound has been played to death and I often find my followers out of Melbourne City being very bitter about it.

‘Giving my experience in production, it’s very unlikely for me to have forgotten how to produce’, I quickly responded. Giving him an insight on how I think he should be proud of this sound being up next to take over the world. He thought I was coming across very arrogant about the producing part. I explained to him that I’ve probably made over 3000 tracks and have been producing for over 20 years. And told him, that’s a simple fact: ‘How can I be arrogant when that’s actually true?’

I’ve had a bit of a struggle this week as I very much listen to what everyone has to tell me on social media. I’ve had a couple of guys from Egypt being very worried about me as well. They told me I’m going downhill. That I should be making big tracks like my ‘old’ tracks again. To me, my old tracks could be the ones that I produced back in 1995, the techno, housy period of mine my wife loves so much. My Daft Punk style days at the end of the nineties. My electro pop time at around 2003. My big room sound of 2005 and up. My full on Dutch from 2007? ‘Turbulence, Timebomb and Natural Disaster‘ is what the kid from Egypt answered me.

So that’s about 2009 and up for me, pretty much around the corner! In my mind, at this moment, I’m still in that sound and pushing that forward. While a lot of kids are currently putting out tracks that sound like ‘Turbulence‘ meets my ‘Guns On Demo‘, I’ve already passed that.

Followers who don’t see the bigger picture, get worried. It’s a discussion I have with my older following every two to three years. It seems that when you’re in between 18 and 23 years old, you cling onto certain songs for life. Those will be yours forever and occasionally something new will come through. It’s a very common human trait. It only sucks for the artist trying to move on.

Since being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90′s, David has been hooked. At the age of 15 he started DJing and playing out at local underground events and raves around the Southern California area. You would’ve found him spinning various styles from house, acid, & techno to hardcore techno.

After a few years of DJing he then decided to learn to produce his own music, which landed him his first releases on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & local label Droid Recordings. Since being associated with local event production group Droid Behavior in 2003, you can find him as a resident at the infamous Interface warehouse events as well as a regular producer for Droid Recordings. Over the years his music has gained worldwide attention and onto the playlists of many big players which eventually led him to gigs at some of the worlds biggest clubs including Berghain in Berlin and Fabric in London. He is also now regularly touring all over the world in Australia, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Central & South America, all throughout Europe and the U.S.A.

In early 2011 he started a project called ‘Truncate’ which focuses on the deeper, and more raw side of techno. His Truncate releases have been gain support from big players such as, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is no slowing down in the near future for David as he continues to shape his own sound, putting Droid Behavior and Los Angeles on the techno map.

Currently wowing Pacha, Ibiza with his new weekly residency, ‘Wisdom Of The Glove’ Guy Gerber has managed to coax only the most interesting artists such as Mathew Jonson, Four Tet and John Talabot deep into his surreal, otherworldly rabbit hole.

Not content with planning for the freshest Ibiza residency out there and embarking on an international tour taking in dates throughout Japan, South America and Europe, the Supplement Facts boss travelled through nine countries whilst creating an entirely original album purely on his Sennheisers.

‘Who’s Stalking Who?’ clocks in at just over an hour, demonstrating Guy Gerber’s flair for silky productions, deep soulful beats and bubbling basslines. More in common with an expert sculptor, Guy has long been renowned for his effortless production and detailed craftsmanship; none more on display than here, the achievement made even the more impressive by making original music whilst on the move.

Hitting the UK for Krankbrother’s infamous Street Party on 22nd June with his own guest John Talabot, ‘Who’s Stalking Who?’ gives you just a taste of that biza magic that’ll be on show in London soon.

Armin Van Buuren has announced that he will be paying over £60k to be one of 100 people on the first commercial flight to outer space next year.

The first of its kind, the commercial flight will see see 100 individuals, including Van Buuren, trained as “founder astronauts” to enter space.

He said: “For every DJ, it’s a dream to travel 3.5 times faster than their own sound! And then that deafening silence at 100 kilometers high. I can’t wait. I guess a 200 BPM heart rate is likely.”

Space Expedition Corporation, or SXC, is the commercial touring company behind the flight, which costs $100k (£64k), according to their AVB’s post

Add Electric Daisy Carnival to the list of unique ways to wed in Las Vegas. EDC organizer Insomniac has teamed up with the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapels to give festival attendees the chance to wed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend.

For the first time, EDC will offer three different wedding packages at two chapels on the festival grounds, seating around 30 to 50 people each. One chapel will offer more formal weddings (both legal and commitment ceremonies available), with the option of a traditional ceremony performed by an EDC minister for $99. Those looking for the full Vegas wedding experience can go for the “Electric Elvis” wedding package for $179, featuring an Elvis-officiated and -serenaded ceremony. Both packages come complete with an “electric daisy bouquet” for the bride.

At the second chapel, fans can enjoy free non-legal renewal and commitment ceremonies on a first come, first serve basis. Couples, friends and groups are all invited to participate in the short-but-sweet ceremonies, which come with souvenir certificates.

Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel is known for offering some of Las Vegas’ most creative theme weddings, including its signature Elvis weddings, Tom Jones weddings and Gothic weddings, as well as for its LGBT-friendly ceremonies as the Gay Chapel of Las Vegas.

Manager Brian Mills says the chapel’s reputation for unique ceremonies caught the attention of Insomniac founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella, who approached Viva Las Vegas a few weeks ago about partnering for the inaugural EDC chapels.

“We do weddings at Rockabilly Weekend, so we’ve done this sort of thing before, but nowhere near on this magnitude,” Mills says of EDC, which drew approximately 300,000 people across three days in 2012. “This is not going to be a little archway in the corner of the festival. When you think about what Vegas is known for, it’s for this festival and it’s for weddings. So we’re really excited. This is something we’re really behind, and we’re getting anxious, in a good way.”

Ceremonies are available from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. from Friday through Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Couples seeking legal weddings are responsible for obtaining a marriage license from the Marriage Bureau prior to their arrival at Electric Daisy Carnival.

For years we’ve been forced to watch on as massive festivals zig-zagged across the Northern Hemisphere but, come 2014, the mother of all international dance festivals, Ultra Music, will finally be making its way Down Under – and it’s looking like it will be the similar three-day event treated to the rest of the world.

It was during their live Twitter coverage of the Korean-brand of the festival this weekend past that one Aussie onlooker enquired about UMF making its way to Australia, suggesting a location “somewhere remote”. The answer was a nice and easy “Yes, it will in 2014″. Once organisers start crunching numbers, though, they mind find that “somewhere remote” is a very loose term when it comes to Australia, and may be an unlikely possibility.

To get an idea of how big the Australian iteration of the event might be, the Korean leg was headlined by acts such as Carl Cox and Armin van Buuren, who are no small deal. This year marked the 15th anniversary of UMF, which saw more than 300,000 punters make the pilgrimage to the festival’s Miami homeland, with millions more experiencing it vicariously through YouTube. The event has had similar success all over the world in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Korea, and will soon be heading to Croatia.

It’s also unclear whether or not the same stage design that has been hailed as ‘The Most Technically Advanced Main Stage Design in History’ will make the voyage down but fingers crossed.

Israeli techno DJ and producer Guy Gerber has a six date US ‘Independence’ tour lined up for next month.

Gerber, who recently launched his new Wisdom Of The Glove residency at Pacha, will visit Chicago’s Wavefront Festival, Montreal’s Piknic Electronik and Brooklyn’s Verboten StageONE plus three other dates in July.

In addition to the tour, Guy has also created an album which was produced purely through his headphones while he has been on the move and he’s giving it away for free.

The album, which is called ‘Who’s Stalking Who?’, will be available as the covermount CD onPacha Magazine and it is available to stream below.
